| Council is poised to vote on the Airport Employment Growth District, a 3,000 acre plan to expand the urban boundary around Hamilton International Airport for employment lands. Do you support this plan? Why or why not? | Yes | To date I have supported this plan. There is no question that job creation and the development of employment lands is a major objective.
Given recent environmental changes in rainfall, the impact on our sewer infrastructure - which is also a basic fundamental need - there is considerable pressure to assess the needs to meet the challenges presented by these changes, as well as meet the objectives stated above. One might speculate that it may require some rescheduling of implementation plans. |
| Do you support Hamilton's LRT proposal? If so, what will you do to ensure Hamilton's success in building LRT? If not, why do you oppose it? | Yes | I do support the Hamilton LRT proposal. It does need considerably more consultative input, but I believe it is the link that will take us to the next level as it hooks up with the transportation system throughout the GTA and Niagara/Golden Horseshoe area.
I plan to support its final implementation - subject to the financial feasibility for all tax payers and a full consultative process for all to comment. |
| Some cities have committed recently to publishing their public data in an open format that citizens can directly access. Should Hamilton pledge to become an "open source city"? Why or why not? | Yes | I am committed to complete transparency, subject to legal advice and the need to preserve confidentiality whenever the Clerk or Legal Staff recommend that material remain in camera. |
| Is Hamilton doing enough to support and encourage new investment in our older neighbourhoods? If not, what should the City be doing? | No | Hamilton can always do more to encourage investment in our older neighbourhoods. |
| Hamilton's Cycling Master Plan has Council approval. However, the implementation timeline is very long and ward councillors can block individual bike lane projects. Do you support accelerating the completion of a continuous bicycle network and other initiatives like a bike sharing program and better access up and down the Escarpment? Why or why not? | Yes | I enthusiastically supported the Cycling Master Plan. Subject to further consultation and support, I am most interested in pursuing initiatives that are responsive to the needs of our community and the people of it.
The increased use of cycling can only prove to be of benefit to those who do it as well as help stem the increased pollution created by motor vehicles. |
| For your campaign, will you be accepting donations from corporations or unions? If so, why? If not, why not? | Maybe | To date, I am financing my own campaign and have not accepted any funds at this point.
As in the past, I will file a final report and follow the rules as outlined in the Municipal Elections Act. |
