QuestionBrief ResponseFull Response
Do you support an expanded role for Hamilton to provide more affordable housing? If so, what should Hamilton do? Yes Yes. We should maintain and renovate existing affordable housing structures. We should also focus on improving access to trades.
Do you support converting more of Hamilton's one-way thoroughfares into complete, two-way streets that support walking, cycling and transit? No I do not support conversion for vehicular traffic for safety concerns and flow of traffic. However, adding bicycle lanes is a good idea.
The Province has shelved a proposal to build a mid-peninsula highway from Niagara Falls or Fort Erie around Hamilton to connect with Hwy 401 or 407 north of Burlington. Do you agree with the Province's decision to put its development on hold? Yes Yes. I agree that the development should be put on hold. We should focus on adding an extra lane each way on the 403 to accommodate increased traffic.
The Province plans to allow municipalities to use ranked ballots in future elections. If so, will you vote to adopt ranked ballots in Hamilton? No No. It doesn't make for a fair election and disregards votes for the least favoured.
Do you support the city's plan to build an east-west light rail transit (LRT) line with full capital funding from the Province? No No. It will most likely go over budget by 25-50%. Where will the extra money come from? Most likely our taxes will go up and the residents will have to foot the bill. There is a McMaster Study showing we do not meet the minimum requirements to have the LRT. http://www.thespec.com/opinion-story/4872957-mcmaster-study-says-lrt-no-magic-bullet-for-hamilton/
Do you believe City Hall should be more accessible to Hamilton residents? If so, what steps would you take to achieve this? Yes Yes. Hamilton residents should be provided with more opportunities to have their voices heard through public meetings. There should also be free parking for residents visiting City Hall (for example to pay for property taxes).
Do you believe Hamilton should do more to protect and enhance its built heritage? Yes
The City's Cycling Master Plan is up for review. Do you support improving the plan to speed the installation of cycling facilities and provide more high-quality protected infrastructure like the new Cannon Street cycle track? Maybe
Do you support implementing a Vision Zero for Hamilton, with a goal of eliminating all pedestrian and cyclist deaths on our streets? If so, what specific actions would you take to implement this policy, and if not, why? Yes Yes. I do agree we should examine various ways of eliminating pedestrian and cyclist fatalities on our streets.
Do you support the use of participatory budgeting to allow ward residents to propose and vote on local capital projects? Maybe Maybe. Residents should have their say with regards to local capital projects. I would listen to their concerns and be their voice in council.
