BioCity Councillor Judi Partridge registered her candidacy for re-election in the upcoming October 27 municipal election. A strong community advocate, Partridge is committed to serve the residents of Ward 15 Flamborough in Waterdown, Carlisle, Millgrove, Freelton and parts of Greensville. On October 27th, she will ask her community to re-elect her with a strong mandate for a second term of council.

When re-elected, priorities will be Taxes, Transit, Transportation infrastructure, affordable Seniors housing, new Recreation facilities, Rural Zoning Changes and the Green Belt Review. The next four years must see continued focus on tackling high taxes and city spending as well as building the Waterdown Bypass. Another priority is the proposed Ward boundary review potentially to increase the size of Hamilton Council which is a real threat to rural communities. We will finish neighbourhood traffic calming projects and continue to manage the new housing developments with public input from her residents.

She will continue her role on the Halton Hamilton Source Water Protection Committee which she sees as critical to addressing the ongoing challenges of the rural wells and water system. The Carlisle community has ongoing issues with the water tower and well water supply system. We need to understand the short-term and long-term health of the aquifer that feeds residential wells and the municipal water systems of Carlisle, Freelton, and the surrounding area. Residents need healthy wells ~ Farmers need a healthy, abundant aquifer for livestock and crops – water is vital for life on every level.

Other top rural priorities currently on her desk are the new Rural Zoning Changes and the provincial Green Belt review both coming in 2015. With solid background on both, she is eager to tackle the challenges that both present for the farming and rural community property owners. She was also pleased to champion Value for Money auditing at City Hall implemented in 2012, and will continue to challenge staff to reduce the city budgets. Says Partridge “experience at the Council table will be of critical importance for Flamborough over the next four years.”

At City Hall and locally, Partridge is respected as the “go to” person who “gets things done”. She emphasizes that the community spirit of her residents gives her the strength to work hard on their behalf. “Council knows I will not back down when it comes to my community.”

“Together, we have accomplished a great deal,” said Partridge. “There was unanimous support to remove highly contentious parking meters in Waterdown, and she successfully fought to keep Hamilton’s Casino located at Flamborough Downs instead of downtown Hamilton; and, what Partridge is most proud of is her work with Millgrove residents to save Millgrove Public School from closing, Flamborough Centre and Mary Hopkins Schools are next to negotiate.

Partridge also championed Value for Money auditing of city spending and the privatization of HECFI, Hamilton Place, Convention Centre and Copps Coliseum Arena saving taxpayers millions. “My residents have been there to support me every step of the way.” And in partnership with the Waterdown BIA, we brought back the Waterdown Farmers Market, a huge community success. The Flamborough Santa Claus Parade is stronger today. At the organizers request, I was pleased to facilitate meetings with local service clubs and community groups, to ensure the Flamborough Santa Claus Parade will continue this year and beyond. I feel very blessed to have the support of so many dedicated residents.”

During her term on City Council, Partridge has worked to attract new businesses at Clappison Innovation Park creating jobs for local residents. GO Transit will build a new maintenance and storage facility, that will bring GO bus and 85 high tech jobs to Flamborough. The Flamborough Agriculture sector has also increased with the new Earth to Table farm development and several new farm related business expansions. Agriculture is a $1.5 billion industry in Hamilton ~ much of it located in Flamborough.

New facilities such as the North Wentworth Twin Pad Arena bring state of the art recreation to local residents. The Arena will soon be named after Harry Howell, a local NHL hockey legend. The completion of the new Guy Brown School and Waterdown High School expansion which Partridge helped champion funding for, will address the educational needs. Important heritage projects such as Waterdown Memorial Hall will be renovated with a new glass Elevator Tower; and soon to be built is the new all season Memorial Park Outdoor Ice Loop.

Prior to assuming office in 2010, Partridge held senior management positions in government affairs, corporate and media relations. Her charitable work included serving on several Boards as well as a founding member of a local charity to help women and children in need. She is also a past recipient of Woman of the Year for Government Affairs and Communication YWCA Women of Distinction Awards.

Partridge is a graduate of McMaster Degroote School of Business United Way Governance program and most recently a graduate of York University Shulich Executive School of Business Municipal Governance program. A believer in continued executive learning, she will start her Masters in Municipal Governance at York University next year.
