QuestionBrief ResponseFull Response
Do you believe Hamilton should do more to protect and enhance its built heritage? No I do not think that everything needs to be declared 'heritage'.
Do you support an expanded role for Hamilton to provide more affordable housing? If so, what should Hamilton do? Yes Yes, I do support an expanded role for Hamilton to provide more affordable housing. I believe Hamilton has many options that we can do to bring this to fruition. First and foremost, affordable housing affects more than just people of "low-income" on paper. It is becoming ever increasing that even those with employment that pays them above the low-income threshold, can not find, or, are finding increasingly difficult to find housing that they can afford. Our market in Hamilton has been unnaturally driven up faster than Hamiltonians that live and work here can keep up. For this, and for low-income, we need to find a solution that can encompass as many financial demographics as possible to avoid a very disastrous future of homelessness and poverty in Hamilton.
Do you support converting more of Hamilton's one-way thoroughfares into complete, two-way streets that support walking, cycling and transit? No In short, no, I do not.
The Province has shelved a proposal to build a mid-peninsula highway from Niagara Falls or Fort Erie around Hamilton to connect with Hwy 401 or 407 north of Burlington. Do you agree with the Province's decision to put its development on hold? No I would like to see this go through.
Do you support implementing a Vision Zero for Hamilton, with a goal of eliminating all pedestrian and cyclist deaths on our streets? If so, what specific actions would you take to implement this policy, and if not, why? Yes Of course I would love to be able to eliminate all pedestrian and cyclist death on our streets. I would also love to eliminate death due to motor vehicle accidents on our streets as well.
The City's Cycling Master Plan is up for review. Do you support improving the plan to speed the installation of cycling facilities and provide more high-quality protected infrastructure like the new Cannon Street cycle track? No At this time, absolutely not. I am not against properly designed bike lanes, nor am I against cyclists, however, at this time, I do believe that we have many more needs that need to be addressed before we work on any more expensive new projects. First and foremost, how can we even begin to think of wanting to increase our cycling infrastructure on roadways, when those roadways are falling apart? I think we all need to bring common sense back to the table here and realize that we have to work on fixing what we have first, before beginning to make any "improvements".
Do you support the use of participatory budgeting to allow ward residents to propose and vote on local capital projects? Yes Absolutely! however, make sure that the resident's are not just a select few.
Do you believe City Hall should be more accessible to Hamilton residents? If so, what steps would you take to achieve this? Yes Absolutely! First off, once we initiate a more flexible work environment at City Hall, we will be able to make it more accessible for those who wish to engage in the civic process. Most people work during the somewhat of a 9-5 schedule. If we truly want engagement, we would make it so that open meetings are done during various hours so that more of the general public has the chance to be involved. Yes, many of these hours will be after 5pm. People just cannot afford to take the time off of work to come down to City Hall to engage in their meetings. We're the employed, should we not accommodate a little more easily?
The Province plans to allow municipalities to use ranked ballots in future elections. If so, will you vote to adopt ranked ballots in Hamilton? Maybe Initially this idea sounds great and at this time I am not opposed to this idea, with that being said, I would however, like to look into this method further.
Do you support the city's plan to build an east-west light rail transit (LRT) line with full capital funding from the Province? No Absolutely not. I fully support increased bus services, including the taxi program that reaches to the areas that do not have access to a bus stop. Also, I would like to install a gondola system extending from the mountain to the lower part of our city in the central/east end. This would be the first site for this system, which would hook up to bus stops at either ends, as well as parking and bicycle hubs.
