BioDonna Skelly is well known in the community as a journalist and volunteer. She lives in Ancaster and has two teenage sons. Donna is rightfully proud of her career as a journalist and has interviewed people from all walks of life including presidents and prime ministers, business and union leaders, students and labourers. Donna has seen at first hand the lies and spin of politicians and the influence of the media. Her dream is to bring greater honesty and transparency to government. Donna has demonstrated her concern for the needs of our community by being an active and effective volunteer. She has been involved with the Children’s Aid Society, McMaster Children's Hospital, the United Way, Catholic Youth Organization and was president of the parent council at her boys’ school. Donna now wants to help the people of Ontario by becoming the MPP for our riding. Donna has identified three areas in particular that she wishes to champion:  Improved care and dignity for seniors. We all realize that there are a growing number of seniors and that health and general care costs are likely to rise substantially unless action is taken. Donna would like to set up volunteer community groups to identify ageing problems and to come up with realistic solutions for better care and transitioning to old age.  Reform of the slots at racetracks program. The Liberal government has recently cancelled a program that has helped sustain an industry that employs more than 60 thousand people. Our constituency will be hard hit by this cancellation.  Job creation. The present high rate of unemployment is unacceptable, especially amongst young people. Donna will promote such ideas as: an improved apprenticeship program; education geared more to job requirements; promotion of Ontario as a great place to do business; development of an industrial policy (but not outright grants to businesses).
