Do you believe global oil production is at or near an historic peak? If so, what will your party do to prepare Canada for declining oil production? If not, why not? Yes Yes I believe that we are at peak oil. However, we would not do anything about it. That is to say, we don't believe that the government should interfere. As the price of oil rises, there should be more incentive for people to use other types of energy sources. I also think that a higher market price for oil is better for the environment anyway.
Will you always vote along party lines, or are you prepared to vote your conscience on a matter in which you disagree with your party's position? No This is what the Libertarian Party is all about. We are all about freedom. Each member is free to vote as they please.
Will your party take steps to make sure the foreign purchase of Canadian companies does not cost Canadian jobs? If so, what will you do? If not, why not? No We would not interfere in any transactions between purchaser and seller. We need to be inviting foreign investment into Canada. Our party is all about letting people do what they want as long as they don't infringe on the rights of others. We feel that if a person buys a business, they should have the right to hire or fire whomever they please.
Do you believe human activity is contributing to climate change? If so, what should we do about it? If not, why not? Yes Yes, I believe that human action is behind global warming. I don't feel that the government does a very good job of regulating the environment. I am more encouraged when I see individuals in my community choosing to be more "green". I also like that people seem to be buying more hybrid cars. This might be more of a reaction to the high price of oil than anything else. It is still good, though.
Do you believe parliamentary rule has been eroding in Canada? If so, what will you do to reverse it? If not, why not? Maybe Sorry, this is another one for which I don't have an answer.
Do you support Vrancor's attempt to remove heritage protection from 150 Main Street West (the old Revenue Canada building)? Why or why not? Maybe To be honest, I'm not knowledgeable in this area. I try not to comment on things that I have not personally researched.
Will your platform promote the growth of manufacturing jobs in Hamilton? If so, how? If not, why not? Yes Our party does not discriminate based on job type. We would not come up with some sort of "manufacturing jobs" plan. However, we would make Canada a very attractive place for business people and entrepreneurs to invest. We would have almost no business tax and very few rules. If a business deals honestly, provides a safe work environment, and is environmentally prudent, there should be no other red tape for business to deal with. That type of business environment would encourage a lot of investment.
Do you believe the Federal Government is doing everything it can to complete the cleanup of Randle Reef? Why or why not? Yes I'm not very educated on the matter, but isn't the federal government spending $30 million on it? Also, I understand that the provincial and municipal governments are chipping in too. So really I don't know if that is "enough". I'm surprised that the companies that polluted the area are not responsible for cleaning it up.
Will you call for a full public inquiry into the 2010 G20? Why or why not? Yes I think that the action of the police force during the G20 is despicable. However, I doubt that a full public inquiry would produce much if any information that would be useful. I think the better solution is to work on strengthening our constitution to allow for improved freedoms. Our constitution is littered with the word "reasonable". To say that we have freedom of speech "within reason" means that we really don't have free speech. Who gets to decide what is reasonable? It is the same with all other rights. Libertarians believe in protecting an individual's right to assemble.
Do you support some form of proportional representation instead of first-past-the-post voting? If so, what will you do to promote it? If not, why not? Yes Yes, I support this. I am part of a very small party myself. I'm not sure how I would promote it though.
