BioLloyd D. Ferguson retired as general manager of Dufferin Construction Company, a division of St. Lawrence Cement Inc. in March 2006 after 32 years of service, 12 as general manager. He was responsible for the complete operation of the company, reporting to the company owner, St. Lawrence Cement Inc. Dufferin Construction is a heavy civil engineering contractor specializing in highway and bridge construction, airports, municipal infrastructure and commercial and industrial site works. Dufferin employs 1,000 people with annual sales over $400 million Canadian.

He is currently a Canadian director of Strabag Inc., an Austrian Company, that completed the $900 million dollar Niagara Tunnel Project where Strabag is the prime contractor.

Lloyd has been involved in over 1,000 construction projects including redevelopment of Pearson Airport, Q.E.W. widening from Stoney Creek to St. Catharines, Welland Canal rehabilitation, numerous projects on Hwy. 401, a number of larger multi span bridges, commercial and industrial projects, Hwy. 407 – the first all electronic toll free highway, airports in western Canada, and the York/Peel feeder main. A number of these projects were completed using the design/build delivery model.

Graduating from the Mohawk College Industrial Management Technology program and the McMaster CIM program has helped Lloyd shape a solid career in construction management. Lloyd also completed the senior management program at McGill University in 1992.

He has delivered speeches across North America on various construction topics.

Lloyd also served as a director on numerous outside corporations including TCG Asphalt and Construction Ltd., Cayuga Materials & Construction Ltd, Laborers-AGC Education and Training Fund (USA), Total Roadway Engineering Corporation, Canadian Highways Management Corporation, Atlantic Highways Management Corporation Limited, and Strabag inc.

Lloyd is an active community and industry volunteer. His realm of experience spans from municipal council to regional conservation to hospitals. During the 1970’s he was a director of the Ancaster Agricultural Society. From 1981 to 1984 he served as an elected trustee on the Wentworth County Board of Education. From 1985 to 1991 he served as a member of the board of the Hamilton Region Conservation Authority. He was an elected councillor for the town of Ancaster, a post he held for a total of ten years until November of 1994 when he decided not to seek re-election. In each of these instances, he has served on key committees and municipal boards, such as Fieldcote Museum, Ancaster Senior Achievement Centre and the library board. From 2000 to 2004 he served on the board of directors of the Hamilton Utilities Corporation. Lloyd was elected in 2006 to represent Ancaster on Hamilton City Council and is currently in his third term. From 2004 to 2012, Lloyd served on the Board of Directors of the Hamilton Heath Sciences Corporation.

Mr. Ferguson was and is an active member of various construction associations. He is past president (1993) and director of the Hamilton Halton construction association. He is past president (1995) and director of the Ontario sewer & watermain contractors’ association. He is past president of the Ontario Road Builders’ association (2000). He is past chair of the National Road Builders Council. In 2003 he was the recipient of the CCA award of excellence in the road-building & heavy construction sector, the third person to ever receive this award.

Lloyd grew up on a dairy farm in Ancaster which makes him very familiar with agricultural issues. He has been a resident of Ancaster all his life. Mr. Ferguson was married to his late wife, Martha for 44 years and has three grown married daughters, Jennifer, Leigh and Erin along with one grandson.
