QuestionBrief ResponseFull Response
Since the 1950s, most new residential and commercial development in Hamilton has been single-use suburban sprawl. Do you believe Hamilton needs to concentrate new development within the already-built area? Why or why not? Maybe Hamilton needs to be competitive with other communities in the golden horseshoe. The focus should be on intensification however it can not be at the expense of not having development. Builders respond to what the market requires. Small units and affordability could be accommodated in already built areas but appropriate zoning is required.
Should Hamilton be trying to attract more young people to live, work and start businesses here, including the 60,000 students studying at Mohawk College, McMaster University and Redeemer University? If so, what should we be doing? If not, why not? Yes Absolutely, Hamilton should be focusing efforts on attracting new cutting edge technology through research. Working with educational and health organizations in our community will help us achieve this.
Hamilton has been experiencing a slow-motion crisis in housing affordability. Do you support an expanded role for the City to provide more affordable housing? If so, what should Hamilton do? If not, why not? Maybe Housing cannot be supported soley on the residential tax assessment bas our taxes on our homes would go through the roof. We need to advocate for funds from provincial and in particular federal funding. Immigration is driving the need for housing and its affordability.
The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act mandates that cities must be completely accessible by 2025. What changes would you make to ensure Hamilton complies with this mandate? Maybe Nice and necessary to have but the cost of renovating existing building’s is very expensive This should be paid for off of income tax.
Global warming is an existential challenge facing humanity. Do you think Hamilton should play a role in addressing climate change? If so, what should the city be doing? If not, why not? Yes The City should be doing more with community heating systems and other opportunities to reduce green house gas emissions.
Do you support the "Vision Zero" goal of eliminating traffic fatalities and serious injuries in Hamilton? If so, what specific actions would you take to implement this policy? If not, why not? Yes Yes advocate for more multi use pathways (Cycle and walk).
Hamilton has a legacy of multi-lane, one-way arterial streets dating back to the 1950s. Do you support accelerating the conversion of these streets to two-way? Why or why not? Yes Yes. The current implementation has just added to congestion more effort needs to be put in place to facilitate moving through out the mountain and downtown.
Do you support improved public transit in Hamilton? If so, what changes do you propose? If not, why not? Yes Yes. I think it would be better to create hubs that are connected especially between the mountain downtown and other neighbourhood communities.
Do you support phasing out area rating for transit? Why or why not? Yes Yes
Council has voted dozens of times since 2008 to advance Hamilton's light rail transit (LRT) project, including voting to submit the plan with a full funding request to the Province in 2013, and voting to accept full funding and implementation from the Province in 2015. Do you support completing the LRT plan? Why or why not? Maybe What is the cost going to be for residential and businesses on Hamilton mountain and what service are they going to receive for it. These questions need to be answered. We need the most effective LRT project possible. I am not sure if the need is great for people to travel from Eastgate to McMaster.
Bonus question: If LRT goes ahead, what will you do to ensure Hamilton receives the maximum benefit? Yes Advocate on behalf of Ward 7 residents for the best service that they are being taxed for.
