QuestionBrief ResponseFull Response
Income inequality is a serious problem in Hamilton, and poverty is increasing in mountain neighbourhoods. What will you do to reduce inequality in Ward 7 and across the city? Yes The City of Hamilton mayor and councillors must ensure that the province is paying their fair share of the non-profit housing bill. A financial partnership with the province was agreed upon and we need to insist that Ontario honours their agreement. It likely will take advocacy on the part of members of Hamilton City Hall to win, but I am prepared to push hard for more provincial funding for non-profit housing which would help mountain residents who are facing financial hardship.
Will you push for a safe, continuous cycling network in Ward 7 with better connections to the rest of the mountain and the lower city? Yes I am an avid cyclist and runner. I understand the importance of a continuous cycling network. We want to see more people cycling and they will, if we give them the bike lanes and paths to safely travel on two-wheels across the city. Yes, I would definitely push for a safe, continuous cycling network in Ward 7 and be out there enjoying it, too!
How will you help to break down barriers between Councillors and the Wards they represent to ensure a more cohesive Council and more balanced decision making? Yes Barriers are usually put up when there has been a breakdown in relationships and then communication becomes stilted or even comes to a halt. I excel at building good working relationships. I think my skills will help build a more cohesive Council which will lead to more balanced decision-making.
Do you support a more vibrant neighbourhood retail destination on Upper Wellington? If so, what do you propose to achieve this? Yes Yes, I support retail destinations. They are important to the fabric of our community and well-planned ones attract both tourists and community shoppers and help boost our economy.

I have a background in project planning with the cities of Hamilton and Brantford. I also bring over 10 years of Business Improvement Experience to the table.
Will you encourage the creation and growth of more neighbourhood associations in your ward? Yes Yes, if Ward 7 residents want this, I am certainly open to helping to facilitate neighbourhood associations. I would add that these associations are not only important, but they are a sign of healthy and vibrant communities. Again, my experience and background in working with community groups will be an asset in this.
How important is it for Council to work with specific goals and targets for each City Department at the beginning of each year? How would you ensure this happened? Yes Establishing goals and targets for the city, and all its departments are crucial. City Hall has a responsibility to ensure each department is reporting and updating their status on a regular basis. Department reports should be presented, reviewed and approved by City Hall.
Will you encourage the city to shift new development away from car-dependant sprawl? Maybe My previous experience working in the Community Development Department will give me a strong basis to help make sound decisions about issues like this, but, of course, the input of my neighbours in Ward 7 will be important, too.
In your view, what's not happening now in the City of Hamilton that you'd like to see happen? Why? What's not happening now in Ward 7 that you'd like to see happen? Why? What's not happening now at City Hall that you'd like to see happen? Why? Yes The City needs to keep Hamiltonians better informed and updated, social media is one of the best ways to do this. Transit is an issue that needs to be addressed in Ward 7, it is a shared complaint of residents. The issue of providing more affordable housing is key and so is the need for Ward 7 to attract new businesses.
Will you push for increased transit investment on the Mountain? If so, how will you pay for it? Yes I have been hearing an abundance of complaints from students, seniors, and regular users of the Mountain transit system, it is a problem. The solution is to add busses and address the numerous complaints that busses drive right pass stops, and to shorten wait times. There is a 10-year strategy that has been approved and is in the process of implementation. I am a strong supporter of having excellent transit through out the city. No one likes fare increases, but then again none of us are happy with our transit system right now, so this option will need to be evaluated and weighed against the current service problems.
