QuestionBrief ResponseFull Response
Do you support implementing a Vision Zero for Hamilton, with a goal of eliminating all pedestrian and cyclist deaths on our streets? If so, what specific actions would you take to implement this policy, and if not, why? Yes Of course! who would not support the elimination of pedestrian and cyclist deaths. We should also include deaths of motor vehicle drivers and passengers, especially innocent people.
The City's Cycling Master Plan is up for review. Do you support improving the plan to speed the installation of cycling facilities and provide more high-quality protected infrastructure like the new Cannon Street cycle track? Maybe I support the review of the City's Cycling Master Plan along with revewing the recommendations that come from it in order to phase improvements to our cycling facilities throughout the City.
Do you believe Hamilton should do more to protect and enhance its built heritage? No Being a member of the Municipal Heritage Committee for the past 12 years, I believe that Hamilton is moving forward with a proactive plan to protect and enhance our built heritage.
Do you believe City Hall should be more accessible to Hamilton residents? If so, what steps would you take to achieve this? No I believe City Hall is accessible to Hamilton residents.
The Province plans to allow municipalities to use ranked ballots in future elections. If so, will you vote to adopt ranked ballots in Hamilton? Maybe I believe the Province should provide comprehensive information to the voters regarding this initiative and how it actually works. We still get people at the polls not understanding the current system!
Do you support the city's plan to build an east-west light rail transit (LRT) line with full capital funding from the Province? Maybe I support addressing LRT or BRT in the most responsible and cost efficient method that provides improved service to transit users of Hamilton and taxpayers. The big question continues to be the Province's funding.
The Province has shelved a proposal to build a mid-peninsula highway from Niagara Falls or Fort Erie around Hamilton to connect with Hwy 401 or 407 north of Burlington. Do you agree with the Province's decision to put its development on hold? No No, I support the mid-peninsula highway to divert traffic away from the very narrow stretch of the QEW that runs through Stoney Creek. The Province currently is proposing the addition of an HOV lane in each direction on an already very congested stretch of highway.
Do you support an expanded role for Hamilton to provide more affordable housing? If so, what should Hamilton do? Maybe I support Hamilton reviewing various options to attract construction of more affordable housing.
Do you support converting more of Hamilton's one-way thoroughfares into complete, two-way streets that support walking, cycling and transit? Maybe I support the review of various one-way thoroughfares in the interest of converting to two-way streets. This should be a comprehensive review of our downtown transportation network that best addresses the movement of vehicles and addressing the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and transit users.
Do you support the use of participatory budgeting to allow ward residents to propose and vote on local capital projects? Yes I support participatory budgeting, subject to the level of risk management attached to the local capital projects.
